Delaware Solar Power Incentives

Delaware Solar Power Incentives

Delaware offers several incentives to encourage solar power adoption, including rebates, tax credits, and net metering programs. These initiatives can substantially reduce the upfront cost of solar panel installation and provide ongoing financial advantages, according to Lumina Solar Delaware.

Key Solar Incentives in Delaware:

Delaware Green Energy Program:

This program provides rebates for solar panel installations, potentially covering over 50% of the cost, with incentives up to $1.15 per watt, as noted by Lumina Solar Delaware.

Federal Tax Credit:

Homeowners can receive a 30% federal tax credit for the cost of their solar panel system, according to Lumina Solar Delaware.

Net Metering:

Delaware is a net-metering state, meaning homeowners receive credit for excess electricity generated by their solar panels and sent back to the grid, according to Lumina Solar Delaware.

Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs):

Delaware has a market for SRECs, allowing homeowners to sell credits for the clean energy their solar systems generate, potentially earning additional income, Lumina Solar Delaware reports.

Delmarva Power Solar Grant:

Delmarva Power customers can receive rebates for solar installations, potentially up to $6,000.

DEMEC Green Energy Program:

The Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC) offers grants for solar installations, potentially up to $3,500.

Additional Information:

The Delaware Green Energy Program also has a Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) Solar Pilot Program that provides free or discounted solar systems to qualifying homeowners.

Delaware's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) requires a certain percentage of electricity to be generated from renewable sources, with solar playing an important role, according to Lumina Solar Delaware.

SREC programs offer extra incentives for solar generation, including bonus credits for using Delaware-manufactured equipment or employing in-state installers.

The federal tax credit is applied to your federal income tax liability and can be carried over for multiple years if the full amount isn't used in the first year.

To maximize savings, homeowners can combine these incentives, including state rebates, the federal tax credit, and SREC earnings, Lumina Solar Delaware advises.
