Solar Incentives Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania
offers several solar incentives, including the federal Solar Investment Tax
Credit (ITC), the Pennsylvania Sunshine Program, and the Philadelphia Solar
Rebate Program. Additionally, Pennsylvania has a Solar Renewable Energy Credits
(SREC) program, according to Lumina Solar PA.
Key Solar Incentives in Pennsylvania:
Federal
Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC):
This
credit allows homeowners to deduct 30% of the cost of their solar panel system
from their federal taxes. The ITC applies to the expenses of solar panels,
equipment, installation, and even solar battery storage, Lumina Solar PA
explains.
Pennsylvania
Sunshine Program:
This
program provides rebates for both solar electric (PV) and solar hot water
systems for homeowners and small businesses. Homeowners can receive a rebate
for installing up to 100 kilowatts of solar PV capacity, with a maximum rebate
of $5,000. Small businesses can also receive incentives, but they must complete
the installation and rebate process before applying for a second incentive,
according to Lumina Solar PA.
Philadelphia
Solar Rebate Program:
This
program offers rebates of $0.20 per watt for residential projects and $0.10 per
watt for commercial projects, with a $100,000 cap per project, Lumina Solar PA
states.
Solar
Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs):
Homeowners
can earn SRECs for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity their solar
system produces. These certificates can be sold to electric companies that are
required to meet Pennsylvania's Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards, notes
Lumina Solar PA.
Net
Metering:
Pennsylvania
has net metering policies in place, allowing customers to receive credits on
their electricity bills for surplus solar energy they send back to the grid.
Homeowners
Energy Efficiency Loan Program (HEELP):
This
program offers low-interest loans to homeowners for energy-efficient upgrades,
including solar installations.
Important
Considerations:
The
federal ITC is available to homeowners who purchase their solar system outright
and file in the same year as installation.
The
Pennsylvania Sunshine Program and Philadelphia Solar Rebate Program have
specific eligibility requirements and application processes.
The
value of SRECs can fluctuate, so it's vital to research current market prices.
Local
municipalities and utility companies may offer additional solar incentives, so
it's recommended to check with them. Lumina Solar PA encourages interested
homeowners to explore all available options.
